How he successfully turned around an established gym that wasn’t making any money
I’m so excited today because I’m talking to Jake Foutz, owner of Fitness Xperts, a full service gym in Orlando, Florida.
Fitness Xperts offers a gym membership that includes classes, the gym floor, small group training, personal training, massage, and even has a separate pilates room.
Jake used to work the normal corporate job in marketing for 16 years, and then in 2017 he bought Fitness Xperts, a move he had been dreaming about for most of his life.
What I think is interesting is how he is able to successfully manage a gym with so many moving parts, including four partners, two sets which are couples, and how he was even able to turn this complex business around, which was struggling at the time that he bought it.
This might be a dream for a lot of you, so I’m really excited that Jake will share with us his story and what worked for him to turn and manage this business and gym successfully.

He’s done it all in fitness — a personal trainer, a fitness and martial arts gym owner, and is now a business coach to other fitness professionals
I am so excited today because we’re going to talk to Stephen Whittier.
He’s done it all in fitness. He’s been a personal trainer, a fitness and martial arts gym owner, and is now a business coach to other fitness professionals helping them 5X, 10X their business.
Using his fitness and the analytical background, he’s been helping fitness coaches since 2011 which is a while ago, and he’s helped them go from three to $5,000 a month to make it even $40,000 or $60,000 a month.
With his main specialty being online training now, it’s really interesting to talk to him. One of his students, Steve McKinney, was able to actually 4X his investment with just one post. I think we’ve all been there where we can’t even get one response to some of our posts so it’s really interesting what he’s doing.
He’s even served as an executive team member and acting Chief Marketing Officer for one of the largest online content networks.
Despite the success, in his heart he still loves coaching, so he actually still owns and teaches at his own studio in Wareham, Massachusetts so I’m just dying and you probably are dying to know his secrets.
[08:28] – How she only spends £50 or around $62 USD on FB ads and gets 20-50 opt ins from one ad! How does she do that?
[12:36] – She gives us more detailed wording on how she targets her pilates customers and she answers the question “can you target more than one customer type”
[17:38] – How she does sales & keeps her conversions high even when her trial clients only interacts with her remote trainer – that’s right Louise is not there on site!
[23:19] – We talk more in depth about creating a customer avatar and how it can be different depending on where you are

From quitting her corporate job, to starting her own fitness business, and now coaching other fitness business owners
Today, we’re talking to Louise Clancy, a Pilates business owner in the UK.
This is the second part of my interview with her. If you haven’t listened to the first part, you should definitely check it out because it has tons of info of how to start your own multi-location, low-cost Pilates business.
What’s amazing about Louise is that she went from quitting her corporate job, telling her husband that she quit her job and starting a new pilates business from scratch to growing her business to over 200 members and now she coaches other fitness business owners how to grow their business just like her.
You’ll really enjoy the second part of this interview.
[15:38] – How she went against the traditional idea of opening a leased fitness studio space, and instead grew her business by renting multiple different locations at a low cost
[26:40] – The one change she made, that supercharged her growing to 60 recurring clients per month with just 5 classes per week
[30:35] – The exact phrasing she started using to target her pilates customers that has consistently increased her membership
[34:07] – What she does to retain top trainers who can work well working remote and unsupervised

The huge thing that happened to her that made her quit her job at a fancy investment firm
I am so excited because today I’m talking with Louise Clancy who lives in North Wales, United Kingdom, where she operates a successful pilates business and an online coaching business for other fitness professionals.
Louise is originally from Australia. She has worked in London for many years in the corporate world, but always had a passion for the health and fitness industry. Then, something happened.
In 2016, she had a baby. She was working in the corporate world, and was just not able to see her newborn baby. Louise made that decision, “Why don’t I quit my corporate job and start my own fitness business, particularly in pilates?”
So, she quit her job and started teaching. But, the thing is she was the main breadwinner for her family, and she had two mortgages and a small child. At about £60 for each class, one class a week was not enough.
You know what she did? She took a leap of faith and found the money to get one of those expensive coaches. From there, her mindset and strategies grew. Then, she was able to really grow her business and support her family.
What’s interesting now is that she actually has become a coach herself and teaches other professional fitness studio owners on how to grow their business, so they also can provide for their family and have a little bit more relaxation time for themselves.

Turning a devastating illness into an inspiration story & successful online fitness business
We have a real treat today because I’m talking to David Lyons. He has turned a debilitating diagnosis of multiple sclerosis into his own personal mission, inspiration story, and even a really successful niche fitness business.
Up until his late forties, David was a muscle guy excelling in bodybuilding and owning fitness centers.
However, at the age of 47, he was suddenly dealing with multiple sclerosis (MS), a debilitating disease that causes nerve damage and leads to vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination.
Instead of giving up his passions, he pushed forward. At the age of 50, he competed in a bodybuilding competition while struggling with MS. He ended up winning the Most Inspirational award for that competition.
Then, in 2012, David and his wife, Kendra, created the MS Fitness challenge, which offers free online finish training to anyone with MS or other chronic health conditions, and it’s from trainers who know how to deal with those physical challenges.
David is also the author of “David’s Goliath,” an autobiography story of his journey with MS and his own fitness book, “Every day Health and Fitness with Multiple Sclerosis.” He’s also the senior fitness director for MS Workouts, an online membership site that provides strength training workouts for those battling MS.
He’s also the creator of the MS Fitness Training Specialist course, which is a certification for trainers who want to work with clients with MS and has already certified over a hundred trainers with that course.
In addition, he’s producing a TV series called “The Reset Plan” with fitness icon and actor Lou Ferrigno and his daughter, Shauna Ferrigno. It’s hard to imagine that there could be more, but he’s actually just launched another business called Optimal Body Personal Fitness.
It’s an online membership site, which is a niche. He focuses on the 50+ community to transform their body and health through a customized workout plan and nutrition support.

From a second grade teacher, to competitive bodybuilder, to opening her own women’s focused gym
I am so excited because we get to talk to Jami Shields who is an inspiration for all of us, especially if you feel like you are making an unexpected life change into becoming a personal trainer or even a gym owner.
In 2008, she was a second grade teacher in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a military wife, and the mother of two kids who wasn’t necessarily a gym goer. She was on track to become a principal.
After getting her Master’s Degree in Education and her principal certification, she thought her life was kind of figured out, but a series of events kind of changed her life and we’re going to hear how that happened.
In 2009, she found herself running a half marathon. She didn’t really consider herself a gym goer. Then in 2010, she competed and won first place in a bodybuilding competition. Her pictures look amazing.
In 2012, she opened the doors to her first fitness studio. Four years before, she was teaching and she had this fitness transformation. Now, she’s been a studio boutique fitness owner for eight years and has transformed numerous ladies’ physiques and helped them lose between 10 to 50 pounds. Check out those before and after pictures.
What’s interesting about her studio is how she really evolved the business to be sustainable and be a magnet for the female fitness market, which we know is one of the best markets.
The fitness industry has changed, so I’m curious how she’s been able to evolve her female focus gym to stay ahead of the market. She’ll also tell us how she runs her challenges to grow her clients.
